Three schools and a nursery center representing South Lanarkshire, Glasgow and Aberdeenshire have been named in the Success Looks Different Awards 2024/25.
The awards, developed by the Inclusion Ambassadors, invited schools, nurseries and early learning settings to share how the celebrate the achievements of their pupils and deliver good practice in inclusion, particularly for their neurodivergent or disabled learners.
Now in its third year, entries were judged in four categories: Early years, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Special Schools. Winners were chosen by the Inclusion Ambassadors, supported by Children in Scotland and Enquire.
The 2024/25 winners are :
- Early years: ELU Hamilton (South Lanarkshire)
- Primary School: Buchanhaven Primary School (Aberdeenshire)
- Secondary School: Duncanrig Secondary School (South Lanarkshire)
- Special School: Parkhill Secondary School (Glasgow City)
Beth Fyfe, Information and Advice Officer with Enquire who works on the Inclusion Ambassadors project team said:
“We were really impressed with all the schools and nurseries who engaged with our awards this year. There were so many great examples of how schools were practically implementing inclusive practice and promoting children’s rights. Thank you to everyone who shared their work, and congratulations to this year’s winners!”
Jenny Gilruth, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills also commented:
“I want to congratulate the winners and all of those who took part in this year’s Success Look Different Awards. It’s vital that we recognise the work being done to ensure our schools and early learning and childcare settings are inclusive places of learning.
“This is an important opportunity to celebrate the achievements of children and young people with additional support needs and those dedicated to ensuring they can thrive and fulfil their potential.
“I would also like to thank the Inclusion Ambassadors for their ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments.”
First launched in 2020, the Success Looks Different Awards were originally developed as part of the Scottish Government’s Additional Support for Learning Action Plan. The awards are delivered by the Inclusion Ambassadors, supported by the project team.
The Inclusion Ambassadors are a group of secondary school-aged pupils with a range of additional support needs and experience of a variety of educational provision. They are supported to share their experiences of being a pupil in Scotland with additional support needs, identifying where and how improvements could be made. They are supported to contribute to national reviews and work in this area, as well as create resources for professionals.
The group are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by Children in Scotland and Enquire.
