Can you suggest three things that adults can do to make it easier for care experienced children to share their views?

Marie:

So I think I would say the main one is choice. Make sure that there are choices around how the child or young person share their views. Because it’s something that’s often been taken away from care experienced children is that choice. So I think that’s really important. Another thing would be predictability, making sure that everything is explained and the child knows what is going to happen and when it’s going to happen. And I suppose that leads on nicely to the third one which I would say is just giving the child the right information at the right time. Ensuring that the child knows, for example who their views are going to be shared with. It’s something that’s often missed out and can be quite shocking to a child later on in a process. So I think that would be my three choice, predictability and the right information at the right time.
