CSPs and leaving school
Mark from Enquire explains what happens to a child or young person’s Co-ordinated Support Plan (CSP) when they move school.
Ellenor:
And what happens to a CSP when a young person leaves school?
Mark:
So a CSP, a Coordinated Support Plan, is just in place when the local authority are responsible for a young person’s education. So at the point where a young person’s leaving school, it means a CSP and other education plans stop. They don’t carry on after school, even if the young person’s going to college or to university or anything. An important point to remember though is that that doesn’t mean everything’s just dropped on the last day of school. Local authorities have a responsibility to plan ahead for young people’s transitions to leaving school. So at least 12 months before a young person’s due to finish up they should be meeting with the young person, their family, carers, and together looking at their options for leaving school and making plans to support them through that transition.
