Daily life is made up of many different activities. Occupational Therapists call these “occupations”. Occupational therapy enables children and young people to participate in the various occupations of daily life to support their health, well being and development. Occupations for children or young people include self-care (such as getting dressed, eating a meal, using the toilet), being productive (such as early play, helping in the house, making a snack, participating in activities and routines at nursery & school e.g. handwriting) and leisure (such as playing with friends or engaging in hobbies). These are available at www.cot.co.uk You can request assistance from a children’s occupational therapist by contacting your local children’s occupational therapy department. Once the request is received the family or carer will receive a letter asking that they contact the service to arrange a telephone consultation with an Occupational Therapist.
